Valentines Day Commission

For this years Valentines Day I not only created Valentines Day cards, but I was also asked to create something special for one of my work colleagues.

His brief was simple - 'my fiance likes cats and playing the piano'

Stages of creation:

First Pencil drawing, and then outlined in black pen

First stage of colouring using copic sketch markers, I decided to colour the keys in first to make sure I could get the right effect for the ivory. This was the hardest part of the piece as it took me 1 and half hours to colour all the keys in.
Once I was happy with the keys and how they looked, I then finished the rest of the piece, leaving the cat til last.

The cat was last to be coloured, as I was undecided about what colour to colour it, in the end I decided on white cat so it could contrast nicely with that of the black piano, but made sure to focus heavily on its green eye colour so that it was the most striking and made you notice as soon as you looked at the piece.
